M. Valancius Public Library of Kretinga District Municipality is a information, education and culture center.
The library is founded in 1935. In 1959 it became a regional library, in 1977 – a central library of Kretinga region. In 1996 – Public library of Kretinga district municipality, in 1997 – M. Valancius public library of Kretinga district municipality.
The public library has 20 branches: 19 rural branches and 1 in Salantai city.
There are 3 departments in the Public Library: Documents Cataloguing and Processing Department, Users Service Department, Information Technology Department.
